Last week I published a blog post on writing and using your mission statement. I shared what a mission statement is, how to write one, and why you need to use it and live it — how to turn your mission statement into your own personal uplifting affirmation or motivating mantra.
I keep my mission statement on the bookmark I use in my journal. In the morning each day, I clear my mind, focus my thoughts, and read it out loud. If it is a particular stressful day or week, I may read it several times until the impact and power it has fills me up and inspires me to start my day.
Here are some ideas to help you turn your mission into your mantra:
- Make it your screen saver
- Record it and put it on your iPod
- Use it as a bookmark in your journal
- Frame it and put it on your office wall
- Have it emailed to you automatically every morning
- Make it the background on your smart phone
- Print it out and tape it to your bathroom mirror
- Write it on a note card and keep it on your nightstand
- Write it on a sticky-note and put it on your computer monitor
- Record it as your alarm wake up greeting
Once you embody your mission statement and mantra personally, you then must infuse it into your brand.
Let your mission statement help:
- Guide Your Decisions
Ask yourself: Will this help me further my mission? Will this help me move closer to achieving my goals? Does this support my why? Is this in alignment with my purpose?
- Identify Your Ideal Clients
Ask yourself: Will this client help me achieve my mission or distract me from it? Do they have the need or problem that I am here to solve? Is my purpose in alignment with their need?
- Enhance Your Brilliance
Ask yourself: Will this help me improve my craft and deliver my mission in a better way? Will this improve my clients’ experiences and results and feed my purpose? Does this serve my mission and keep me in my area of brilliance or take me outside it?
As a business owner or entrepreneur, your mission statement is your promise to the universe to make the world a better place by honoring your talent, skills, and gifts and using them to create change in someone else’s life or business. It is your commitment to take action every day to move forward and not only achieve your goals, but to help your clients achieve their goals.
By infusing your mission statement into your brand, you are allowing your prospects and clients a glimpse of your why and your purpose. You are giving them an opportunity to connect with you on a deeper and more meaningful level.
