A Premium Conference Focused On Business And Career
Taking place October 3-4, 2014 in Downtown Minneapolis and streamed live wherever you are, Prestige Conference is a new and intriguing addition to the WordPress conference ecosystem, including WordCamps and Pressnomics. Created by Josh Broton and Kiko Doran, the conference is hyper-focused on growing a business and building a career with WordPress.
First, let me say that I love WordCamps. They are positive, helpful, educational, fun events that pull local wordPress communities together. They give community members at all levels the opportunity to share their knowledge, give back, help others, build relationships, and improve their own skills — and with tracks/sessions on design, development, content, blogging, getting started, and business, there truly is something for everyone.
With that said, I do think there is space for additional WordPress centered events, especially those tailored to one specific subject like this one on building, and growing businesses, and cultivating careers in the WordPress community.
I look forward to seeing the landscape of additional hyper-focused WordPress-centered events evolve, and I am excited to experience the inaugural Prestige Conference.
Instead of running several concurrent tracks, Prestige offers one track. Founders Josh and Kiko scoured the WordPress community to curate one day full awesome speakers and sessions on running a business and cultivating your career, and a pre-event night of food, drinks, and alcohol-fueled honest answers from some successful WordPress business owners.
Speakers at Prestige Conference are bringing the most valuable lessons they’ve learned about running their businesses and managing their careers to Minneapolis — they include:
- Carl Hancock
- Jake Goldman
- Jennifer Bourn (that’s me!)
- Lisa Sabin-Wilson
- Matt Medeiros
- Nick Pelton
- Reid Peifer
I’m Speaking at Prestige Conference
I am thrilled and honored to be invited to speak alongside impressive lineup of business owners. In my talk, Satisfy the Want, Deliver The Need: A Design First Approach to Building a Sustainable Business Using WordPress, I’ll focus on what it’s like to build a company focused on creativity and design while using WordPress.
Here’s a description of the session:
Design infuses every part of our world. It stirs emotions, creates experiences, shapes memories, and persuades actions. Design showcases exceptional code, supports compelling content, and drives consumers to make the decision to buy — to invest in hiring you, buying from you, or learning from you.
In its 10th year, Bourn Creative, a Sacramento web design and graphic design company, satisfies what clients want most with a design first approach, and delivers what they need with clean, flexible code and a conversion-based strategy centered around WordPress. But getting there wasn’t easy, wasn’t a straight path, and was sometimes really ugly.
In this talk, you’ll get candid and honest insights on the hurdles, the successes, and the lessons learned along the way.
