Imagine a small, intimate setting where you’re surrounded only by like-minded people willing to invest in their careers, businesses, and success. Imagine all of those people working in the same space you are, but in different capacities and different ways, with different types of clients. Imagine being able to talk with them openly and honestly, to get real feedback and fresh perspectives, and to really have the opportunity to talk shop and learn.
Sounds amazing right?
This is exactly what I experienced at Prestige Conference. Prestige is a business & career development conference geared towards freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small shops operating in the digital marketplace.
I was thrilled to have been invited to speak alongside some ridiculously talented and accomplished business owners, and I knew the event would bring the value with Kiko Doran and Josh Broton at the helm. But what I didn’t expect was how different the event felt in comparison to a large WordCamp.
Prestige kicked off Friday night with networking and great food.
There was time to meet people, have meaningful conversations, and get our grub on — and there wasn’t loud music that required us to shout the whole time. Then we all gathered around for an “Honest Answers from WordPress Business Experts” panel discussion with Carl Hancock, Reid Peifer, and Travis Totz, moderated by Matt Medeiros.
Saturday was all business
As they say on the Prestige website, you won’t find programming tips or code workshops at this conference. This wasn’t a day of hands-on, learn to do your job better talks, it was a day filled with stories of successes and failures, and of advice and lessons learned.
Every speaker, including myself, shared honestly and openly about their journeys growing their businesses, launching and selling products, and serving clients. They talked about growth, hiring, charging higher fees, mistakes and blunders made — and they delivered it in a way that inspired all of us listening to go forth, do great things, and do better business.
You can still watch all of the talks
With the purchase of a live event ticket or a live streaming tickets, attendees also gained access to the videos from the event for six months.

Did I mention the swag?
So t-shirts are a thing. Everyone loves a free t-shirt, but not all t-shirts warrant the love. The Prestige shirts do. They are super soft, stretchy, and I love the TIE Fighter illustration. A t-shirt that rolls Star Wars, coffee, and tech all in one is my kind of shirt.
I also got a sweet hoodie that I wear all the time, a super warm blanket, and a goodie bag full of snacks and a Starbucks gift card (there was one in our hotel). Kiko and Josh really know how to take care of their speakers and make them feel loved. Oh, and when I got home, everyone wanted a t-shirt. So extra thanks go out to Kiko and Josh for sending Brian and the kids swag too!
