Most often when invited to speak at a live event or conference, on a teleseminar or webinar, or a podcast or radio show, I am asked to speak about business related topics, including:
- Website strategy
- Business Systems and Processes
- Content Strategy / Blogging
Rarely do I have the opportunity to talk about mommy stuff and the messy attempts to achieve balance between work and family, but that is exactly what I got to do with Katie O’Brien.
Katie, known as the simplicity coach for mom entrepreneurs, invited me to be a guest in her Motherhood Simplified Interview Series spotlighting inspirational moms.
In the interview, we talk more about my approach to finding balance — giving enough time to both my work and my family so I don’t suffer from guilt. I don’t think balance is really a thing. In the Bourn household we approach it more like a teeter-totter, and as long as we’re not tipped one way too long, all is good!
I share the more personal side of Bourn Creative’s start (I was pregnant when I quit my job), how we manage the business and household (ironically it’s very similar), and why systems and processes make everything work.
We also talk kids and marriage and priorities. I share some of our child rearing philosophies, why we have empowered them to be self-sufficient and independent, and why we love babysitters.
While it’s not the typical business building interview I usually do, if you’re a parent who is at all frustrated with the work/life juggling act, you may find this interview helpful — or at least entertaining!
