I recently switched over to the new Facebook profile (I had been resisting) and some of the new changes really bother me, one in particular. In the profile information listed at the very top of the profile, Facebook automatically generates a link to a page for your employer. This meant that Bourn Creative, LLC linked to a blank page that Facebook created, not my actual Bourn Creative page on Facebook. In the screenshot below you can see the same is happening on Brian’s Facebook profile where he lists our company name as Bourn Creative.
I tried to edit my employer information and I couldn’t change the name of the business and there was no place to edit the URL that the employer’s name links to, or to add a different URL. Our Facebook articles like Help Readers Share Content with Facebook, How to Create a Facebook Page For Your Business, and How to Market on Facebook Using Lists have been hugely popular, which means you like this content…
So here’s exactly how to change that link:
All I wanted to do was make the link for my employer listed in my Facebook profile link to the right Facebook page — the one that I created. Needless to say, I was frustrated and voiced my opinions to my friends on Facebook and asked if anyone knew how to fix this.
Two friends, Lisa Pardee Hines and Carol Dyer responded back almost immediately and told me that if you want your Facebook Profile link to your business to go to your existing Facebook Business Page, the name of your employer must match the exact name of your Business Page.
So, because I had my employer listed as Bourn Creative, LLC, Facebook just created a new page. Why? Because my official page for Bourn Creative is Bourn Creative Graphic Design & Website Development (another reason I really regret assigning my page that name). See the example screenshots below:
So I figured out how to make the employer name link to the correct Facebook page, but then I ran into another problem. Facebook doesn’t exactly make this easy. I couldn’t change the name of my employer.
I had to delete the employer from my profile and then add it back in as a new employer with a different name.
Quick Tip: Remember to copy out any content you want to save from the listing!
