Twitter Follow Friday Tips and Recommendations
It is pretty much accepted on Twitter that sending Tweets like the one below are unacceptable. They clog your Twitter stream with meaningless Tweets that don’t tell you why you should follow someone or care that they are on Twitter.
BAD #followfriday Tweet:
#followfriday @bizauthor @jerrykennedy @toddlay @TheTimeTamer @KeithHuggett @CAwealthadvisor @spinhead @SueAwesome @joyklepac @mickeyobrien
One of the people I love following on Twitter is @EricaMueller and she wrote the fantastic blog post “4 Ways to Improve Your #FollowFriday Recommendations” that you need to check out if you’re on Twitter.
From now on, I will be doing my #FollowFriday due diligence as a blog post instead of in my Twitter stream. I’ll also be recommending some of the great people I follow with Mr. Tweet, which helps them gain more visibility on Twitter as well.
My #FollowFriday recommendations for September 11, 2009 are going to the fabulous members of the Sacramento Speakers’ Network that I am so fortunate to hang with on te first Wednesday of every month.
- Follow author, speaker, and publisher @bizauthor because she can help you get your book done and use it to grow your business.
- Follow sales and motivation guru @jerrykennedy because he is totally authentic and cares more about your success and his own.
- Follow outsourcing and delegation king @toddlay because he can take the stuff you don’t want to do and shouldn’t be doing off your plate.
- Follow systems, processes and profits expert @TheTimeTamer because she can help you get more done more efficiently – after all, she is The Time Tamer.
- Follow CPA @KeithHuggett because he helps you keep more of the money your earn.
- Follow author and copywriter @karincarter because she is kind and easy going and can help you make your website copy, brochure copy, press release or article more effective.
- Follow financial advisor @CAwealthadvisor because he loves to join me for cocktails and cheeseburgers and talk serious business and financial strategy.
- Follow personal finance consultant and mompreneur @kristilegue because she is Your Financial Diva.
- Follow business smarty pants @spinhead for real word commentary and business insights.
- Follow virtual assistant @SueAwesome because she helps authors and speakers run their businesses with less stress.
- Follow entrepreneur business coach @mickeyobrien who is wacky and silly and likes to have a good time while guiding his clients on goal setting, action, and achieving your vision.
- Follow professional organizer @asimpleplan because she is an amazing individual who helps your clear the clutter.
- Follow sales trainer @rickcooper because he knows what is talking about when it comes to making sales and attracting new clients.
- Follow women’s business coach @joyklepac who has a huge heart and big mind.
Is there anyone I forgot, or are you a member and want to add yourself to this list? Please elt me know!

Jennifer,
Thanks for the mention and link! I love your tweets too.
It’s been a while since I’ve visited your site. It looks great. I love clean cut designs with eye popping color!
-
Great post Jen, and not just because you are recommending me. :) I always send FollowFridays with a descriptive reason, though I’ll give some thought to adding them to my blog–cool idea!

Hi Jen, this was a great idea. I tend to forget #followfriday as they are one of my busiest days.
I like the idea of bloging and giving resons why.
Also I appreciate the mention. You rock Jen!

Thanks Jen for the mention. I completely agree. Twitter follows should be descriptive so we know why in the world we should follow this person. Twitter can be a great way to connect with people – if we know why we should connect.

Thanks for the mention Jen! Great idea! Can I add that people should #followfriday @jenniferbourn because you are authentic and provide fantastic advice. Truly one of a kind… -
Thanks for the mention Jennifer! Can’t wait to give you a #FollowFriday tweet this coming Friday!
-
Stephanie & Joy – Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! Posting your Twitter #FollowFriday recommendations in a blog post not only adds new fresh content to your blog, but when you include links back to the Twitter pages of those you recommend it helps them increase their followers and their search results! And, it really makes the whole #FollowFriday thing more efficient on Twitter itself.
-
Eric – Thank you so much! This site has been, (along with http://www.effortlessentrepreneurezines.com and http://www.jenniferbourn.com) and still is a labor of love. Very happy to hear you like it! Loking forward to connecting more on Twitter!
-
Sue – I definitely agree! Thank you for your comment. Twitter is a great platform for connecting and engaging new people. Have a description of why we should follow someone is the key to making successful Twitter recommendations, and not just another meaningless Tweet full of names. With more and more spam accounts popping up on Twitter, those #FollowFridays are going to start getting ignored more and more. That is also one of the reasons I like Mr.Tweet. At this site you can make official recommendations for other Twitterers, providing a description of why they should be followed.

Thanks Kristi & Rick for your comments and for being valuable members of my network! Descriptive #FollowFriday recommendations and Mr. Tweet recommendations are a great way to show your support for anyone on Twitter you value!
