About Bourn Creative

Jennifer Bourn and Brian BournIf you’re frustrated with your brand and your website because they aren’t producing the results you want, and you know that to take your business to the next level your brand needs a serious upgrade, you are in the right place!

At Bourn Creative we can help you transform your businesses into an extraordinary and lucrative brand that attracts clients, creates opportunity, and commands respect. When you work with us to design your brand, website, or marketing materials, you gain a powerful platform that will give you the confidence you need to step into the spotlight as an expert and leader, and the tools you need to make marketing your business a piece of cake.

Founded in 2005 by me, Jennifer Bourn and my husband and business partner Brian Bourn, Bourn Creative is an award-winning, full-service brand design, website design, and graphic design firm based in Sacramento, California. Known best for our WordPress website design, Brian and I offer a combination of group workshops and training courses, one-on-one consulting, and done-for-you design services.

Even though we do run Bourn Creative from our home, Brian and I definitely do not share office space – As a habitual pile-er, my desk is often bit too messy for neat-freak Brian! For a change of scenery during the day, we hold most of our meetings either in our backyard, pool-side cabana while the kids swim, or we head to a restaurant for a working lunch (yes, sometimes it’s Chuck-E-Cheese’s)!

Working from home not only allows Brian and I to spend more time together, but it gives our entire family more quality time together! We both volunteer in the kids’ classrooms and go on all of the field trips we can. Brian and I are also head coach and assistant coach for both of our kids’ soccer teams!

About Jennifer Bourn

Designer, Brand Strategist, WordPress Lover

About Jennifer BournI first discovered my love of design in high school, where I learned Pagemaker and Photoshop to design the school’s yearbook. As the over-achieving first child, I took my love of computers to college, majoring in electrical engineering (boring!) only until I realized I could switch my major to graphic design and spend my days mastering the Adobe Creative Suite, an x-acto knife and spray glue!

After graduating with my Bachelor of Science in graphic design and five internships under my belt, I went to work first for a publishing company and then for a public relations agency where I had to commute 45 minutes to an hour each way!

Fed up with the demanding agency life (and the commute) and two months pregnant, I launched Bourn Creative not only to spend more quality time with my family, to have more freedom, and to pursue my passion for design and marketing, but to also avoid having to do what other people say – which is ironic now that I hired my husband Brian as the company’s CEO and he is technically my boss.

Today I am the creative mind behind the brand design, WordPress website design, and graphic design produced by Bourn Creative. I am also the company’s branding and brand marketing strategist and I write our blog and weekly email newsletter, Accelerate Success.

I love creativity of design and the strategy that comes with making a brand, website, or marketing piece not just pretty, but successful in closing the sale. While the base of what we do is similar for most of our clients, I love that every project is unique in its own way and what I do every day is different.

When not obsessing over pixels, HTML tags, typefaces, content formatting, alignment, and color, I can be found working on our popular newsletter Accelerate Success, tweaking our website, or writing articles for the magazine Today’s Entrepreneur Woman.

In 2011, I am proud to say that I became a two-time, Amazon best-selling author with the compilation books, Millionaire Moms In The Making: Inspiring Stories of Successful Entrepreneur Moms Doing and Having It All! and Success Rituals 2.0: Winning Habits of High-Achieving Women; How She Does It and How You Can Too. I also contributed a chapter to the powerful marketing book, Soulful Marketing: Heart-Centered Marketing for Conscious Entrepreneurs.

On the more personal side, I’m a mother of two, I have been married for twelve years, and while I don’t drink coffee, I love Starbucks and tea. I also love tacos, tequila, non-fruity chocolate, trashy romance novels, City Legos, baking, and eating out. I also, much to Brian’s dismay, spend way too much time at Target and specialty paper stores.

About Brian Bourn, CEO

WordPress Super Nerd

About Brian BournFrom day one, Brian has handled the finances and taxes and much of the administrative work for Bourn Creative. In fact, while filing the original paperwork for my business license, Brian realized that if we used our name in the business name we didn’t have to pay extra for a fictitious business name – so he came up with the name Bourn Creative and I fell in love with it!

Over time, as Bourn Creative grew and I got busier and busier. Because I was so busy in the “doing” of the business and working with our clients, the work we needed to do on our business to keep moving forward just wasn’t getting done. As a result, Brian stepped in and took over almost all of the non-creative work.

When we finally transitioned Bourn Creative from a sole proprietorship to an LLC, I realized that the role of CEO was a perfect fit for Brian. His analytical, strategic mind, business savvy, and talent – combined with the fact that he researches things to death made him the perfect person to be in charge of advancing the business. So in 2009, I officially named Brian CEO of Bourn Creative. That way I could stay in my area of brilliance doing what I love, and he could take care of everything else!

Today Brian acts as project manager for all of our client work (which means he tells me what to do), manages the day-to-day operations for the business (which keeps me on task), and handles all of the finances (which I promptly spend).

Brian spends most of his working day inside WordPress tweaking code and managing all of the technical aspects of our website projects. When he is not deep into coding, he is busy helping our clients with setting up their hosting accounts, email marketing opt-ins, installing and configuring WordPress themes and plug-ins, and consulting with clients about WordPress.

When not working, Brian is an information-junkie, consuming news like I consume chocolate – and his smart phone just makes it worse! Heck! He even read the encyclopedias for fun when he was a kid! Although his thirst for knowledge and an impressive memory make him the worst person to play any type of trivia game with, he is great to have on road trips because he can answer questions about everything!

Brian is also an avid racquetball player and spends much of his downtime playing Legos with our family. He collects the Star Wars Legos for himself and enjoys acting out his favorite scenes from the movies with our kids using the Legos!
